We can't emphasize enough the importance of excavation site safety. Components, such as the crane, bucket, breaker and hoe pack can present a danger to staff and pedestrians if you fail to adhere to safety guidelines. We'll go over the procedures for ensuring a safe working environment.
Implementing Excavation Site Safety
Establish Pedestrian Exclusion Boundaries
Use fencing or bunting to provide a clear boundary between working and pedestrian zones. Also, a signaler should be present at all times to guide the operator through blind spots.
Be Aware of Undercutting
Undercutting occurs when the bucket digs into the ground beneath the excavator's tracks. This drastically elevates the risk of a cave-in. The excavator's tracks should always be perpendicular to the trench to prevent the floor from giving way.
No-Go Zones Within the Work Zone
With the exception of the signaler, no staff should be allowed within the trench when an excavator is in operation. Also, no crew member should ever be under the bucket for any reason.
Know the Excavator Capacity
We always establish the capacity limits of our excavators. Never go over the load limit specified on the load chart. Furthermore, be aware that the excavator's lifting capacity decreases as the load is lifted and moved away from the machine.
Use the Thumbs Up Policy
Some of our clients enforce what is called the 'thumbs up policy.' This policy states that all ground workers must remain within the operator's sight and not pass the excavator until the operator gives the thumbs up.
Excavators aren't toys. They are powerful machines capable of causing serious injury if crew members ignore the safety rules. If you're aware of operator safety guidelines, then give Active Excavator Rentals a call. Follow our directions to our company or learn about us and what we offer to contractors in the Monroe area. We always stress excavation site safety for first-time renters.
